Samsung Patent Application Exposes 'Galaxy Gear' Smartwatch
Samsung's smartwatch plans just became a little clearer: The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) recently published an application for a wearable tech design created by the South Korean company.
The document, filed on July 29, requests a USPTO trademark for "Samsung Galaxy Gear."
The tech giant identifies the machinery as "Wearable digital electronic devices in the form of a wristwatch, wrist band, or bangle capable of providing access to the Internet and for sending and receiving phone calls, electronic mails, and messages."
Samsung Galaxy Gear—compatible with smartphones, tablets, and PCs—would also provide wireless storage, transmission of data and messages, and management of personal information. There is no word on whether the device will be Android-powered, or run a different or new operating system.
