Facebook tweaks News Feed algorithm to bump popular stories

SOCIAL NETWORK Facebook has announced changes to its News Feed algorithm to display popular stories that users might otherwise miss.
Facebook calls the feature Story Bump, as the tweak to its algorithm will see the website 'bumping' older stories with lots and likes of comments to the top of the page - stories that users might miss by not scrolling down News Feed far enough.
The firm said that it tested the change with a handful of Facebook users, saying that the tweak saw a five percent increase in the number of likes and comments on posts and an eight percent increase in the likes and comments on posts shared by brand pages.

Facebook explained in a blog post, "The goal of News Feed is to deliver the right content to the right people at the right time so they don't miss the stories that are important to them. Ideally, we want News Feed to show all the posts people want to see in the order they want to read them.
