How to Root the Samsung Galaxy Note II

Rooting the Galaxy Note is pretty complicated, which is only exacerbated by the fact that there are so many variants. Here's a good starting point to getting your device rooted.
For more information on what rooting is, what it can do for your phone, and what all those confusing terms mean, check out our always up-to-date guide to Android rooting.
The Galaxy Note, like all Samsung phones, has many variants, meaning there's no one rooting method that will work for everyone. Your rooting method will depend on which carrier you're on, as well as what country you're in. Here are the different versions you'll have to deal with:

  • The AT&T version, also known as the I717
  • The T-Mobile version, also known as the T879
  • The GT-N7000, which is the international version available in most (but not all) countries—some countries, like Japan or Korea, have their own versions you'll need to look up on your own.

Up-To-Date Guide to Rooting the Most Popular Android Phones

We love Android, but rooting your phone can give you the opportunity to do so much more than your phone can do out of the box—whether its wireless tethering, speeding it up with overclocking, or customizing the look of your phone with themes. Here's how to root some of the most popular phones with minimal effort.

Rooting, for those of you that don't know, means giving yourself root permissions on your phone. It's similar running programs as administrators in Windows, or running a command withsudoin Linux. With a rooted phone, you can run more apps (like backup or tethering apps), as well as flash custom ROMs to your phone, which add all sorts of extra features. If your phone isn't on the list, be sure to check the Where to Go if Your Phone Isn't Listed section for suggestions on where you can find more info pertaining to your specific device.

What is Rooting?

It is not possible that every user of SGN will be familiar with this root thing. It is sure that most of you have heard the term but some of you have no idea what kind of beast is this.
Every Android phone has a special administrator access. This is controlled by the manufacturer. The users are not allowed to access the core system areas of the handset unlike a PC. Rooting is nothing but hacking to get entry to all areas of your phone. By rooting it you can recover the full right of your phone.
So, you can use special programs and scripts on it which need to have special administrator permission like changing the clock speed of your phone’s CPU or installing a custom ROM.
