Samsung caught artificially inflating Galaxy S4 benchmark results, fires back non-explanatory explanation

Samsung caught artificially inflating Galaxy S4 benchmark results, fires back non-explanatory explanation

Good, reliable benchmarks are important, but the only way to make certain they operate as intended is if they’re treated the same way by the hardware platforms they run on. When applications or processors start treating certain tests differently than others, it warps final results and leaves reviewers and readers with an inaccurate idea of total performance. Samsung is the latest company to get caught with its pants down in this regard; the company’s Galaxy S4 is artificially setting its GPU at a higher clock speed when it encounters a benchmark, and then reverting to the stock clock speed when you shift back to normal workloads.
Samsung
Specifically, the international version of the Galaxy S4 (the one equipped with Samsung’s Exynos 5410 Octa) will boost the GPU clock to 532MHz, from 480MHz, if it detects that GLBenchmark 2.5.1, Antutu, or Quadrant is running. The team at Anandtech that investigated the problem dug further, and discovered a function, dubbed “BenchmarkBooster” buried inside the dynamic voltage and frequency scaling APK. That allows the GPU to set specific frequencies for specific titles.

Samsung Patent Application Exposes 'Galaxy Gear' Smartwatch

Samsung Patent Application Exposes 'Galaxy Gear' Smartwatch

Samsung's smartwatch plans just became a little clearer: The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) recently published an application for a wearable tech design created by the South Korean company.
The document, filed on July 29, requests a USPTO trademark for "Samsung Galaxy Gear."
The tech giant identifies the machinery as "Wearable digital electronic devices in the form of a wristwatch, wrist band, or bangle capable of providing access to the Internet and for sending and receiving phone calls, electronic mails, and messages."

Samsung Galaxy Gear—compatible with smartphones, tablets, and PCs—would also provide wireless storage, transmission of data and messages, and management of personal information. There is no word on whether the device will be Android-powered, or run a different or new operating system.

How to Root the Samsung Galaxy Note II

Rooting the Galaxy Note is pretty complicated, which is only exacerbated by the fact that there are so many variants. Here's a good starting point to getting your device rooted.
For more information on what rooting is, what it can do for your phone, and what all those confusing terms mean, check out our always up-to-date guide to Android rooting.
The Galaxy Note, like all Samsung phones, has many variants, meaning there's no one rooting method that will work for everyone. Your rooting method will depend on which carrier you're on, as well as what country you're in. Here are the different versions you'll have to deal with:

  • The AT&T version, also known as the I717
  • The T-Mobile version, also known as the T879
  • The GT-N7000, which is the international version available in most (but not all) countries—some countries, like Japan or Korea, have their own versions you'll need to look up on your own.

Root your Samsung Galaxy Note II

How to Root Samsung Galaxy Note N7000

You can also root your Samsung Galaxy Note Mobile Easily

Here is an easy step by step guide to root Samsung Galaxy Note mobile phone. Please note that this guide is for the original Galaxy Note. Don’t try this method on Note 2 or any other phone.
I have tested this method on my friend’s girlfriend’s Galaxy Note. It was successful and she was so happy that she has promised me to help dating her best friend! So, here you can see that rooting is also associated with dating.

What is Rooting?

It is not possible that every user of SGN will be familiar with this root thing. It is sure that most of you have heard the term but some of you have no idea what kind of beast is this.
Every Android phone has a special administrator access. This is controlled by the manufacturer. The users are not allowed to access the core system areas of the handset unlike a PC. Rooting is nothing but hacking to get entry to all areas of your phone. By rooting it you can recover the full right of your phone.
So, you can use special programs and scripts on it which need to have special administrator permission like changing the clock speed of your phone’s CPU or installing a custom ROM.

Samsung Tips Next-Gen Galaxy Note at Sept. 4 Event

Samsung Tips Next-Gen Galaxy Note at Sept. 4 Event

Samsung is prepping to unpack its newest device at a Sept. 4 event in Berlin. The handwritten design of an invitation sent out to media suggests the likely debut of the Galaxy Note III, expected to launch this fall.
Samsung further confirmed suspicions with the "Note the date" message on the invitation (pictured). What's more, the event comes just before the annual IFA consumer electronics show, where the tech giant last year premiered the Galaxy Note II phablet.
While final details about the next-gen device have not been revealed, rumors about its specs have been circulating. As TechCrunch pointed out, some reports have tipped a 6.3-inch screen, while others said there will be four different iterations with varying screen sizes.

Samsung Invite Promises Next Galaxy Will Show Its Giant Face

What is usually a dreaded Monday morning inbox was today brightened by an invitation (below) from Samsung to see “the next Galaxy” unveiled in Berlin on September 4. Though the invitation doesn’t specify which flavor of Galaxy we’ll see, we’re all expecting to get our hands on the Galaxy Note III for the first time.
As per Samsung tradition, the company is calling the event “Samsung Unpacked” because why fix something that isn’t broken?

Last year, Samsung used the IFA conference to showcase the Galaxy Note II for the first time ever. The September 4th unveiling for the next Galaxy falls just before IFA Berlin this year, which begins on September 6. That said, it’s entirely possible that Samsung will be setting up an independent press conference to unveil the next-generation of the Galaxy Note while leveraging the inordinate amount of tech press in Berlin at the time.
